"We would like to acknowledge the sad passing of Mavis Nye, she will be missed, not only in the UK but globally as a fighter for asbestos victims.

Mavis, unselfishly used her last years to campaign for better treatment and lived in hope that a cure for Mesothelioma would be found."

Other tributes from within Health & Safety campaign groups, included the Safety and Health Practitioner, who two years ago awarded her the title of ' Most Influential Person In Health and Safety 2021' for her work as a campaigner, supporting and raising awareness of the dangers of asbestos exposure and supporting those who are diagnosed with Mesothelioma.

In a their press release, SHP wrote:

'Fourteen years from her original prognosis she has campaigned passionately around the dangers of awareness, and was one of the first people to galvanise all sides of the debate. From a standing start and with no formal training in the field, she has been a touchstone for victims across the globe.'

Commenting, IOSH President Stuart Hughes said:

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Mavis’s death. She was a tireless campaigner on issues around asbestos and related diseases. Despite suffering from mesothelioma herself, Mavis dedicated a huge amount of time to raising awareness of the dangers of asbestos and also, through her charity, to supporting those suffering the cruel effects of exposure.”

In her LinkedIn account, Laurie Kazan-Allen Coordinator, International Ban Asbestos Secretariat, said of Dr Mavis Nye:

'Our Friend Mavis. A tribute to the esteemed and revered Mavis Nye whose dedication and friendship meant so much to so many of us. Thank you Mavis for your love and support. Our condolences to Ray, her children and grandchildren and her many friends on continents far and wide. The world is a sadder place without Mavis.'
